This course is designed to provide univariate and multivariate time series models for forecasting in business and economics. Topics include ARMA, in-sample/out-of-sample forecasting techniques, model selection and forecast evaluation, VAR and causality, response function analysis and variance decomposition, unit roots and cointegration,
state space models, GARCH and volatility forecasting, and non-linear models.
Forecasting is one of the most rapidly growing research areas with wide applicability in economics. The increasing complexity of global financial markets is fueling the demand for professional experts who possess an understanding of forecasting, econometric tools to solve forecasting problems, and necessary computer skills to create relevant forecasts.
Forecasting combines the essential tools in economics, statistics, and mathematics to meet these growing needs.
For the empirical work, econometric computer software will be studied. The recommended statistical software is Eviews, and the teaching assistant (TA) will guide and assist you to this computer software.

This course covers the communication systems from the basic digital communication to most advanced wireless topics including the MIMO systems.
The main focus will be on building the capability of designing the communication systems and verifying it by the Matlab (or C) simulation based on the strong theoretical understanding.
The course will review the digital communication part of which are covered in the digital communication course and part of which are not covered such as maximum likelihood sequence detection and continuous phase modulation.
We will conduct the Matlab simulation on every Monday in the computer lab together and on Wed we will have a lecture for the theoretical understanding. The detailed subjects to be covered in the course as follows:

1. Introduction: Wireless communication, SoC chip, Role of system engineers

2. Digital Communication
* Optimum receiver in AWGN
* Maximum likelihood sequence detection
* Communication over bandlimited channels
* Simulation by Matlab using the optimum receiver for those topics

3. Wireless Communication
* Review of fading channel models
* Generation of fading channel models by simulation
* Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) systems
* Diversity MIMO
* Spatial Multiplexing MIMO
* CDMA systems
* OFDM systems

Health Economics

Discussion of health care arouses great passion - who gets health care and how much they get is both a moral and practical challenge to a civilized society and of personal interest to all. We don't want to get ill and we want to be properly treated if we do. Economics as a discipline can provide great insight into these issues. The fundamental problem of scarcity requires choices. Even if our preference is to spend more on health care, there are limits as to how much of our personal and national income we can spend on it. However we do decide to spend and we want to spend it efficiently so that we get more health care for a given commitment of resources. To answer these questions we need to introduce and apply a range of economic concepts.
